We at OpenSpace are constantly brainstorming on how we can support the community’s entrepreneurs. One of the ways is to host gatherings that bring together professionals—assisting in strengthening ideas, networks, skills.
On February 27, we will be hosting our first open space conference in OpenSpace—beSwarm.
Some call it an open space conference or an (un)conference. The term unconference has been applied, or self-applied, to a wide range of gatherings that try to avoid the elements of a conventional conference.
beSwarm revolves around dynamic tech discussions and the outcome of such an event depends on (un)structure, rather than structure.
The (un)rules:
• Whoever shows up is the right group.
• Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
• Whenever it starts is the right time.
• When it’s over, it’s over.The (un)guidelines:
• Use the Law of Two Feet. Not interested in a topic? Move along.
• If you find a topic boring, find or start a new discussion.
• The emphasis is on discussion, not eyes-forward presentations.Sign Up here or just show up!
• Saturday, February 27, 2010
• 10AM – 6PM
• Hosted by OpenSpace
• FREE (lunch offered at a discount)

OpenSpace began as an idea approximately one year ago. We launched our Soft Opening just over a month ago. And Thursday evening we celebrated our Official Grand Opening.
Between 5PM and 8PM, close to 80 people gathered under our illuminated globe lights. There was an ambiance of excitement, curiosity, and connections. We had a nice intermingling of guests. Some members, some new to OpenSpace, and several familiars who helped evolve us from a concept to a building to a synergetic space where people can work and meet in comfort.
The congenial and seasoned staff of Harvest Moon Catering wove in and around the guests, providing unique and tasty hors d’oeuvres such as mini Gorgonzola and caramelized onion sandwiches with pear bisque shooters. There were also tiers of cheese, spreads, crackers, pâté, and other nibbles artfully displayed.
Our staff provided grand tours of the North and South sides, introducing our guests to the amenities and technologies. And to capture it all, we had Sarah Cramer Shields with her infamous Photo Booth and her box of zany props. Guests and staff donned Viking helmets, feather boas, and cowboy hats while Sarah snapped and flashed, creating serious whimsy. To view all the hoopla from the Photo Booth click here. To view Sarah’s other photos of the Grand Opening click here.
We would like to thank all who attended this grand opening event –for all of your interesting questions, valuable insight, warm-hearted welcomes, and continued support. At the end of the evening guests left kind Post-it messages on the glass doors of the studios, most of the food had been eaten, and there was a sense of momentum as we officially move forward.

On Saturday November 7, the 18th Annual Live Arts Gala & Afterglow will blaze through the evening and shimmer on into the wee hours. One will encounter ornate finery, a colorful feast, vibrant performers, and the thrill of a live auction.
And OpenSpace will don our very dazzling attire to join the merrymaking—as joyful attendees and an honored corporate sponsor of Live Arts and the Gala. Live Arts is tangible imagination. As our local theater, they mirror magic back to the community—inspiring, questioning, animating. As spectators, volunteers, artists, and patrons, we recognize the need for a balance of the magical and the real.
OpenSpace is delighted to promote Live Arts. As part of this endorsement, we have contributed a Corporate Retreat/Business Gathering Package to be auctioned at the Gala. This package includes the use of all three technologically evolved collaborative rooms or an expansive 3000 square foot work space, complete with concierge support and refreshments for up to 25 people. Place a bid and let us host your company’s next event in style.
Although Live Arts has successfully sold all of the Gala tickets, you can still join us at the Afterglow escapade, beginning at 11PM. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lives Arts box office (434)977-4177 or by gliding over to Live Arts Afterglow.
It is going to be an enchanted evening. We hope to peer through the glitter and see you there.
