Get your week off to a sweet start! Beginning this coming Monday, February 6th, we will be serving up fresh Spudnut donuts for our members on the first Monday morning of every month.

Before diving into your workload for the week, take this opportunity to gather ’round the sugary, fried goodness (but it’s potato!) and make a new coworking friend.

We’ve had a lot of new member sign ups lately, and here’s your chance to meet all the new faces! There are so many great people at OpenSpace working on such a diverse range of projects, the collaborative potential is endless! But don’t just take our word for it. First Mondays is your chance to get to know the people who work around you every day. It’s a moment in our busy lives to build up the community-feel that makes coworking so great… while also indulging in a little sugar to get you going!

jpegTo celebrate the Christmas season, OpenSpace is hosting a Christmas Party & Holiday Movie Marathon- hopefully our festivities won’t get upstaged by a snowpacalypse this year!

Next Tuesday, December 20th, starting at 2pm in the Conference Studio, we will be playing an assortment of all the best holiday movies! It will be a chance to take an early Christmas break and relax with other OpenSpace members while enjoying some classic seasonal favorites.
Elf, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street (the original!) will be showing on the big screen, and there will be popcorn, hot cider, and Christmas goodies to munch on throughout the afternoon. Feel free to invite friends, the more the merrier!

Rumor has it Jeff may also make a special appearance as Santa Claus, and Joseph may or may not be convinced to play an elf. Caroling encouraged.

    OpenSpace is turning 2!jpeg

Wow- it’s hard to believe it’s been two years since OpenSpace started revolutionizing how people in Charlottesville work. We’ve come so far, and it’s incredible how fast time flies! And you know what that means- time to celebrate!

We’ll be having our 2nd Birthday Party on Tuesday, November 15th, from 12-2pm. Join us for lunch from Eppie’s as we celebrate our second year together and reflect on how far we’ve come.

    Two Years: Milestone update

After just two years, OpenSpace now has nearly 300 members! Over the course of this past year, we’ve seen some big changes. We’ve:

    • Turned The Forum into a beautiful special events space
    • Changed our regular hours and welcomed the arrival of 24×7 Access

    • Instituted ‘Clean Fridge Fridays,’ with great success

    • Cheered the return of decaf coffee

    • And celebrated our coworking community with coffee and beer tastings, luncheons, an ice cream social, and of course, happy hour.

What a year it’s been- thank you for all your support! We couldn’t have done it without our amazing members (all 300 of you)!

For those who were unable to attend Monday’s event, the vote is in: Effectuation is one hot topic!

OpenSpace hosted a vibrant group of over 50 individuals during our first talk on Effectual Entrepreneur Programs. Lead by our very own Ian Ayers, the evening session focused on Effectuation: Learning the Decision Framework of Expert Entrepreneurs, based on research done by Darden Business School’s Dr. Sarasvathy.

This interactive group discussion – with the help of 6 entrepreneurial-minded audience members – was energizing. One by one, they pitched their business ideas to the crowd with ideas, suggestions, real-time feedback confirming that co-creation works! It truly was Effectuation in action!

If you missed out on this awesome event, rest assured that there’s more to come! We’re working on establishing an ongoing schedule of Effectuation talks at OpenSpace.
